Roche patients and treatments

Roche has a long history of innovation in tackling viral diseases which threaten the health of large numbers of people in the UK and which represents a crucial challenge in the future of healthcare.

Today Roche is at the forefront of researching, developing and providing products for the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of viruses including influenza, Hepatitis C, Hepatitis B and HIV.

One of the most contagious viral diseases is influenza. Epidemics can be especially dangerous for vulnerable groups such as the elderly and chronically ill and place a heavy, annual burden on health services. Pandemics can affect millions. Roche has met this need with a neuraminidase inhibitor, one of the latest class of treatments that specifically attack the influenza A and B viruses. It works by stopping the virus replicating, hence reducing the severity and duration of the illness. It also forms the cornerstone of the government's antiviral strategy, as part of the UK Pandemic Influenza plan.  Businesses are also considering the use of this antiviral in their pandemic continuity planning.
